September 1, 2011 marks the beginning of a new era in self-publishing. Various teams of writers have now published the world’s first crowd-sourced murder mystery novel on Libboo.com. The novel “Paradox: The curious life and mysterious death of Mr Joseph Wheeler” represents the contributions and interactions of thousands of people during a four-month period.

The project, called ‘The Great Libboo Experiment’ was started earlier this year. Libboo teamed up with best-selling author Richard Wiseman – who provided the first chapter of this murder-mystery. Hundreds of writers created their own storyline, making a ‘writing-tree’ in which thousands of people read and interacted with throughout the months of March – June.

One June 1st, the experiment was closed to further contributions and Team Libboo used a patented technology called KEBL – Knowledge Engine Base on Libboo. The algorithm analyzed and predicted the best possible path for a story based on how people interacted, read and wrote along the ‘writing-tree’.

On June, the KEBL’s version of PARADOX was made available to the Libboo community in order to carry out Phase II of the Experiment. During the summer, various teams of writers worked on- and edited their version of PARADOX. On the 1st of September, the teams of writers published their version of this murder mystery novel.

The book with the highest total score (a combination of social media presence, reads, downloads, influence) by the end of this month will be crowned the winner!

In October 2011 – we will announce the winning version. All proceeds from this project will benefit the National Literacy Trust, a UK based non-profit promoting literacy around the globe.

On August 30th, 2011, team Libboo launched its first public version, marking a significant milestone in the development of Libboo’s social writing platform. Since the start of the year, Libboo.com was a beta while the team carried out development testing and gathered valuable feedback and suggestions from its community. Here are some of the key features of Libboo:

- An updated cleaner interface, streamlining the whole process of reading, writing and networking.

- A faster site, using a more efficient and streamlined codebase.

- Improved searching for Books and Users

- Event filtering, allowing you to quickly search though and filter a list of books/users/reviews/comments etc, etc…

- Improved writing and versioning when you are working on a Libbook with other team members.

- Updated social links, making it easier to post your favourite Libbook to Facebook, Twitter etc…

- The addition of a score matrix, letting you see exactly what you are successful at and what you may want to focus more on.

- A dramatically improved help system with an updated set of information aimed at getting you started on your Libbook project, reading and networking in no-time.

Team Libboo believes in the power of community. A new community ‘feedback’ button has been added enabling members to be part of the Libboo’s ‘design innovation team’, where members can have a hand in shaping future of the site.
